General Information

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust serves the population of Doncaster, Bassetlaw and neighbouring areas of South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire.

The Histopathology laboratory analyses approximately 30,000 requests per annum and is both UKAS Accredited and IBMS approved for training.

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is currently one of five Trusts involved in the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Transformation Programme. The aim is to design a Pathology Service that provides all SYB patients and clinicians with equitable access to high-quality, innovative laboratory medicine solutions that will ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients. The service will also be efficient and sustainable, encourage research and development in collaboration with Academia and Industry to improve health and innovation in the region and provide rewarding jobs and career opportunities for all staff.

Medical Secretary – band 3

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Band 3 medical secretary to work within the Department of Histopathology at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

The post holder will be required to provide secretarial support to the Consultant Histopathologists and also undertake general secretarial duties. This will include the transcription of diagnostic reports from audio files to the Laboratory Information System, the use of patient administration systems (CAMIS), the recording of the dispatch and return of cases for referral to other hospitals and the preparation of Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

Attention to detail, accuracy, audio typing and organisational skills are essential requirements, together with the ability to prioritise a varied workload and deal effectively with all levels of staff

Experience of working in a hospital / medical environment with the use of medical terminology is essential. Excellent word processing or typing qualifications and experience of Microsoft applications are essential.
